Athletic Department (University of Michigan) scrapbook series, 1902-1996 [microform].

Five sets of scrapbooks compiled to document University of Michigan athletics. Main series (1902-1996) was compiled by the Athletic Dept. from the Michigan Daily, Ann Arbor News, Detroit Free Press, and Detroit News, and covers men's intercollegiate athletics. Fan's scrapbooks (1942-1950), compiled by an anonymous fan, are devoted almost exclusively to football. Jay Kleinert scrapbooks (1921-1989), compiled by Kleinert of Jackson, Mich., are devoted entirely to football. Ben Friedman scrapbooks (1922-1939), compiled by the Friedman family, cover his career. Women's athletic scrapbooks (1982-1996), compiled by the Athletic Dept., cover women's athletics.

Benjamin "Benny" Friedman (1905-1982) was a high school, college, and professional football player, coach, and athletic administrator. One of six children of immigrant parents, he was raised in Glenville, a predominantly Jewish neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio.
